Deusche Schule Barcelona visits ZHF
Earlier this year we welcomed 36 talented students and their teachers from the Deusche Schule Barcelona in Spain. It was organised by the school for their Art History and Design students to learn more about London, including the life and work of Zaha Hadid who was based here for most of her life. We were able to present them with some models and drawings by Zaha Hadid Architects from our Collections, including drawings for a competition entry for a Barcelona-based project, A New Barcelona (1989).
Taking inspiration from the works they saw, we challenged the students to quickly model their own architectural sculptures with paper. Through ripping, folding, curling and cutting, each student created a unique design. Upon their return to Barcelona, their art teachers gave them a project on Zaha Hadid. The brief was to:
Design a public building for a city of your choice in a deconstructivist style. Take inspiration from something typical or symbolic of the city and incorporate it into your design in an abstract way. In addition, consider the political and social context of the chosen city and reflect it in your design.
We were thrilled to receive photographs of the students’ excellent work in 3D model making. We look forward to welcoming future cohorts of students from the Deusche Schule Barcelona and sharing our Collections with them.
